Social & Economic Empowerment of Women
SILAI SCHOOL ENTERPRISE
Usha Silai School Program, by Usha International Ltd., is a transformative initiative aiming to empower marginalised women. Focused on sewing and stitching skills, it opens income opportunities, elevates social standing, and creates a ripple of skill development. The program prioritises economically challenged households, addressing distress migration. Women earn from orders, teaching others and being knowledge resources in the village on machine repair. The school is also a safe space to discuss social issues with their peers. Through confidence-building training and community awareness, the program goes beyond stitching, enabling empowerment in women's lives and communities.

COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANISATION
Self-help groups have proven to be powerful collectives of women seeking change in the spheres of their own families and society. Leadership training fosters an understanding of savings, interloaning, and norm-setting that is critical to the efficient function of a collective. The groups are built on a foundation of equality that brings financial power into the hands of women while also creating spaces for open discussion and serving as a nexus to link families to better healthcare, education and social justice.
Self-help groups at hamlets come together as Village Development Committees and are linked with the state livelihood mission.

THAR ARTISANS COLLECTIVE
The Thar Artisans Collective (TAC) aims to develop women into artisans of stitching and embroidery, kantha, appliqué, crochet and hand painting. In collaboration with Sadhana, regular training and exposure visits are organised. As artisans, their handmade products provide economic empowerment and recognition of skills. A total of 50 artisans are part of the collective with regular engagement from 21 women. The TAC women meet regularly to practise their skills and design various products.
CAMPAIGN EVENTS
Campaigns are held on Children’s Day, International Girls' Day, and International Women’s Day. The celebratory days enable women and girls to speak on a stage and amplify their voices. Games are held specifically so they can free themselves from inhibitions and laugh together. Artistic programs inspire creativity and reflection. While women in positions of power today share their journey to inspire others, these events also appreciate the achievements in the year of individuals and collectives.
