Mission

To raise awareness, educate and empower poor and marginalised communities to actively participate in rural development initiatives and programs aimed at alleviating of poverty. Our mandate is to organise local institutions to identify and address community specific issues, amplify the voices of the masses in appropriate forums and deliver solutions for the advancement of these communities.

2000

Founding of organisation

Partnered with like-minded organisations addressing urgent needs in the geography - learning with the people to implement change

2004

Contributed to the reduction in malaria cases by 40% in a block with only a 30% literacy rate during a severe outbreak in the region through the Malaria Control Project

106 never-enrolled-in-school girls were supported through residential schools and converged into Grade 8 of the public school system. 10 of these girls are part of the Rajasthan police force today (Shivamba Awasiya Balika Awasiya Shikshan Yozana)

2005

Pilot of Hepatitis B vaccination with the support of Serum Institute of India before including the vaccine in the Universal Immunisation Program

Baburam Bishnoi,
Founder

Baburam Bishnoi is an expert in stakeholder engagement and knows the pulse of the people. Having grown up in a farming family in the desert regions of Rajasthan, he has firsthand experience of the struggles of rural communities. In his early career, he was part of the Lok Jumbish program that launched the people’s movement for universalisation of primary education in Rajasthan. Inspired by the community-centric processes, he along with a few others established Sahaj Sansthan in 1999. Since then he has dedicated over 30 years of his life to an equitable society and continues to spend most days on the field with his team.

Harhini Santhanam, Chief Executive Officer

Harhini has spent her career driving health, nutrition and socio-economic development programs. With vast experience in grassroots organisations, she brings her understanding of behaviour change, data and technology to address the day-to-day struggles of people. Stemming from a passion for the environment and understanding its impact on people and vice versa, she has a degree in Development Management from the Indian Institute of Forest Management. As a young leader, she gives strategic direction to the organisation to create successful models of change that can improve the lives of those in the remotest, driest regions of the state. For fun stories, do ask her about riding across rivers on her motorbike to visit tribal villages in Madhya Pradesh.

Paras Nath Sidh, Advisor

Paras Nath Sidh is currently the Director – Programs at The Antara Foundation and has worked with organisations like Pathfinder International, HLFPPT and Sphere, to drive State and National programs of Healthcare, Nutrition and Disaster Management. His expertise in policy and advocacy has cemented critical government partnerships for the organisation, enabling effective and sustainable change. He has a Masters’ degree in Social Work and an MBA in Healthcare Management. When he’s not working, he loves to spend time with his family.

The leadership is supported by a field team with lived experience of familial and societal struggles in rural Rajasthan. Their dedication to learning and uplifting those around them takes the organisation forward.
